IT (software, hardware, websites, marketing)

Localization in the IT sector differs from traditional translation in that generally the translation work is carried out almost in parallel with the development of the original, in order to allow the simultaneous launch in several languages on the international market.
Translation/localization in the IT sector is one of our core activities, and we have the resources and experience to ensure quality and accuracy at every stage of the life cycle of a project, be it short-term or long-term for small or large applications.

With approx. 150 million words translated in 20 years of activity, our translations help the top ten IT companies worldwide to communicate in Italian with their customers.

  • Software localization/Translation of user interface strings. While using translation memories (TMs) to ensure consistency throughout the entire documentation, we adapt the translation to compensate for changes in length between languages, so that the text can be correctly displayed in the user interface.
Once the software has been compiled, further corrections may be necessary to resize the interface elements: in such cases we can provide feedback and recommend changes to ensure a proper localization process.

  • User manuals, online helps, tutorials. The validated localized version of the software and the related glossaries serve as a basis for the second stage of the localization process, involving preparation of the online help, user manual and all the documentation.

  • Translation of marketing, advertising and website documentation. In addition to translation with reference to the TM, we provide a transcreation service, enhancing the translation so as to provide, with the necessary compliance with the original message, an element of creativity, essential to adapt it to the needs of the local market, so that the user does not perceive that the product has been localized, but recognizes it as having been written in his own language.

In the IT sector our main areas of specialization are:
    • CAD software
    • office automation software
    • software in general
    • apps for social media and stores
    • cloud apps
    • e-commerce
    • data and network security products

  • Hardware products. We also have a significant presence in the translation of technical and marketing documentation related to hardware:
    • network infrastructure hardware
    • workstations, servers, storage, connectivity
    • telecommunications, fixed telephony, mobile telephony
    • monitors, printers and accessories
    • desktops and tablets

  • Assisted translation. To facilitate the localization process, especially in the IT sector, we use the main Computer Assisted Translation (CAT) tools to manage the translation memories (TMs), such as SDL Trados, SDL Trados Studio, Across, Star Transit, MemoQ, Idiom, Smartling, as well as the most common industry tools for QA, such as Xbench.

  • Machine translation. To be more competitive in the IT sector, some internationalization agencies use machine translation (MT) systems and provide us with a first draft of the translation.
Unlike humans, a machine translation engine is not able to translate misspelled words and, in the case of long or complex sentences, often provides ambiguous translations. On the contrary, these tools are useful in interpreting repeated phrases, recognizing and translating them in an efficient manner.
We can support this work methodology, adapting and changing the texts generated by an MT engine to render these solutions suitable for translating large volumes of content in a short space of time.
